Gordon Way

➡️ 18.5 km (11.5 miles) | ↗️ 725 m (2,380 ft) ascent | ⌚ 5-6 hours

This is a linear route, between the Bennachie Visitor Centre and the car park at the Suie Hill on the Bridge of Alford to Clatt road ,therefore arrange return transport before setting out.

On Bennachie, the waymarkers show the Gordon Way Trail but across the B992 waymarking is by the distinctive green post hexagonal sign. One option is to split the walk in two by stopping at the Glenbrindy Cottage on the B992.

The Gordon Way crosses moorland, farmland and, passes through forests, so stout boots are recommended.

Whilst on the Bennachie range it follows old peat extraction routes.

There isn't a leaflet for the Gordon Way but the route is described in publications such as 'Guide to Bennachie' available from the Gift shop.

Features to note:

  • Unfortunately both crew were killed and are believed to be the first allied casualties of World War 2

  • Memorial Cairn - on the ridge to the south of Oxen Craig is the memorial cairn to the three airmen killed on Bennache
