Before you go advice from Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team

Bennachie – A small hill with big views is also a Mountain Rescue hot spot, why is that? Although Bennachie may be smaller than the Munros further west, it has the same hazards.

What are the main hazards?

  • Steep ground near the tops.

  • Rough paths in places, steps with loose gravel.

  • Can have wet tracks and muddy forest paths.

  • Multiple tracks and paths can be tricky to navigate in the mist or in the forest.

  • Exposed ground subject to the weather, wind can blow you over.

How can you help yourself, prevent an incident and prevent a Mountain Rescue call out?
